The West Bengal government today welcomed the Supreme Court order on civic elections in seven municipalities.
State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said they had sought time till June 15, but the apex Court gave them time till June 30 to complete reconstitution of the seven municipal bodies before fixing election dates.
The state government has been asked by the Supreme Court to complete by June 30 the exercise to reconstitute seven municipal bodies to enable the State Election Commission to hold elections there.

The seven municipal bodies are: Asansol, Kulti, Raniganj, Jamuria, Bidhannagar, Rajarhat-Gopalpur and Bally municipalities.
Last month election to 91 civic bodies across the state was conducted.
