Maharashtra BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Vinod Tawde today said he wanted to stand for a state Assembly seat in the elections due later this year.
Tawde's term in the upper house will end on April 24.
He told reporters here that he did not want a renomination. "Going by the work I do...I have informed the party that my interest is now in contesting the Assembly election," he said.
"My constituency is Vile Parle in western suburbs, but during both my terms, the seat was with (the ally) Shiv Sena. If Shiv Sena swaps it, I will contest from there," he said.
According to BJP sources, if the Sena did not give up this seat, then Tawde would probably contest from Mulund in the central suburbs, where Sardar Tara Singh is the current BJP MLA.
The biennial Legislative Council elections are scheduled for March 20.
