Boy burnt to death

A 15-year-old Dalit boy was burnt to death in Mohanpur village of Bihar's Rohtas district today as a punishment for his goat straying into the field of others, police said.

The victim has been identified as Sai Ram (15), son of one Jewat Ram, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Vikramganj, Ashok Kumar Das said.

Mohanpur village falls under Karakat police station area, about 55 km from the district headquarters.

Giving details of the incident, the SDPO said during the day, the boy's goat strayed into field of others, following which a group of people beat up the boy. He was later brought home by his father after settling the dispute.
 

But, in the evening, the same people raided the boy's house and set him on fire after pouring kerosene over him, the SDPO said.

A badly burnt Sai Ram was rushed to Vikramganj sub-divisional hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later in the evening, Das said.

As news of the boy's death reached the village, tensions mounted and a police force has been rushed there, the SDPO said.
