CBI arrests 3 officials on bribery charges

The CBI has arrested a deputy director and an inspector working in Regional Fertiliser Control Lab, Mumbai in an alleged bribery case.

The CBI spokesperson said today the agency has registered a case against the officials under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act on a complaint from a Mumbai-based importer.

"It was alleged that the accused persons had demanded bribe from the complainant for facilitating the import of sulphur by clearing the test samples. CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant," CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said here.
 

He said searches have been conducted at the premises of the accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents.

The spokesperson said an Inspector, Central Fertiliser Quality Control and Training Institute, Faridabad (Haryana) has also been arrested in a separate case of alleged bribery.

It was alleged that the accused also demanded bribe for facilitating the import of sulphur.

"The accused came to Mumbai and allegedly demanded the bribe for clearing the sample and also the fare for his flight ticket. He provided his and his relative's bank account numbers and asked the complainant to deposit the bribe amount in the said accounts," he said.

The spokesperson said Rs 7,600 was allegedly deposited in the account of the accused and Rs 16,000 was deposited in the account of his relative.

"CBI arrested the accused from Faridabad. Search was also conducted at his residence," he said.
