Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati today assured Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar that the Centre will prepare a roadmap within 45 days for finding a solution to the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) and other inter-state issues with Punjab.
According to a Haryana Government press release, which was issued after Manohar Lal met Bharati here said that a meeting of the two chief ministers would be organised for the purpose in Chandigarh.
Since there is BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, BJP is in power in Haryana and shares power in Punjab, such problems can easily be solved in a friendly environment, she told the Chief Minister, the release added.
Khattar urged her to get the hearing done early through the Attorney General on the Presidential Reference to the Supreme Court on the SYL issue which has been pending for the last 10 years.
In order to run the Hansi-Butana Canal, the matter should be taken up with Punjab and its hearing got completed in the Supreme Court at the earliest, the Haryana CM said.
Referring to the demand of Delhi for more water, the Chief Minister said Haryana had no additional water to offer.
Other states should also join in meeting the needs of Delhi, he said adding that other link of Ravi-Beas should be constructed soon to stop the excess water from going to Pakistan, so that the availability of water could be increased in all states of the country.
The work on three new bridges on Yamuna should be started, he added.
Stressing that efforts should be taken to clean the polluted water flowing from the National capital to Haryana, Khattar sought the Centre to extend its assistance.
"There should be effort for cleaning the polluted water flowing to Haryana from Delhi. The Centre should assist for the purpose," he told reporters.
