Clean India campaign launched, to cover 100 monuments

"There will be about 100 monuments to be taken up in the PPP model under the Clean India campaign to keep these tourist sites neat and clean and environment friendly," Sahai said after launching the project.

The projects involves round the clock garbage clearance, drinking water facilities, maintenance of parking lots and toilets and proper signages at the heritage complex among others.

"The campaign will be carried out in the PPP model with the involvement of PSUs and corporates. I am convening a meeting of PSUs and corporates to work out the details," he said.

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the PSU under the ministry, is entrusted with the pilot project at Qutab Minar.

 

"Currently there are about six million foreign tourists coming to the country and our aim is to increase it to 12 million," he said adding "for this we have to provide a hygienic environment in around tourist destinations across the country."

Radio jingles and posters were also released on the occasion.

There is also plan to carry the campaign message on train tickets, Sahai said. MORE
