Couple attempt suicide fearing parents disapproval of affair

A couple allegedly attempted suicide by jumping in a well here, fearing their parents will not approve of their relationship, police said today.

Vishal, a resident of Surir village was having an affair with the girl belonging to a different community.

According to the girl, when both couldn't confront their relationship with their respective families, they decided to end their lives, police said.

Both of them, adults, resorted to the extreme step yesterday, in which the boy lost his life whereas the girl was saved in time.

However, the boy's family has alleged that this is a case of honour killing and has lodged a case of murder against the girl's family.
 

Police is further investigating the issue, they said.
