Crop insurance scheme being rolled out in Himachal

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) is being implemented in Himachal Pradesh to safeguard farmers in the event of crop losses due to natural calamities, an official said today.

Presiding over the state-level Crop Coordination Committee, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Tarun Shridhar said the objective of the scheme is to provide relief to farmers in case of crop losses due to fires, drought and other vagaries of weather.

The scheme will be implemented in 10 districts of the state from the ensuing kharif season, except in tribal districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.

The insurance amount for normal coverage of maize crop has been fixed at Rs 70,000 per hectare and Rs 75,000 per hectare for paddy crop.
 

The premium rate of insurance has been fixed at two per cent.

Shridhar said the Union Agriculture Ministry has launched the Crop Insurance Mobile App recently and farmers can get information about the scheme through this app as well.

He urged the farming community to take maximum benefit from this scheme and approach the PrimaryAgriculture Cooperative Societies, rural and commercial banks and officials of the Agriculture Department.
