A pet dog was today shot dead by a 27-year-old man in a fit of rage when it barked at him in Loni area of Ghaziabad here, after which he was booked by police on the charge of attempt to murder.

Based on a complaint filed by the dog's owner, police have registered an FIR against the man at Loni police station.

Police said the incident took place in Bantla area this morning when Pramod, along with his pet dog, went out for a morning walk. Pramod's neighbour Sunil along with his dog "Kallu" was also there for a walk at that time.

"When Sunil and Pramod were taking a walk, their dogs suddenly got involved in a fight. Pramod and Sunil tried to pacify the dogs. After pacifying the dogs, Kallu suddenly started barking at Pramod, which angered him. Thereafter, Sunil and Pramod, along with their pet dogs left for their houses," said a police officer.

After reaching home, Pramod took out his licensed pistol and headed for Sunil's home. Pramod's father Sheetal Prasad, brothers Sompal and Vicky also joined him and left for Sunil's home. On reaching Sunil's home, Pramod opened fire at Kallu and fled from the spot.

Kallu received three bullets in its body, the officer added.

Police have sent Kallu's body for postmortem and registered an FIR against Pramod, his father and two brothers on charges of attempt to murder and mischief by killing or maiming cattle.

Police have launched efforts to arrest all four accused.
