Eight persons were detained today after they tried to enter the building of the government's department of trade and taxes while allegedly carrying high amount of cash with them, officials said.
The cash ranged from Rs 37,500 to Rs 4.5 lakh, and they were held during a special checking drive carried out by the internal vigilance and security of the department.
Giving details, Commissioner, Trade and Taxes, S S Yadav said that when questioned, those persons were unable to give satisfactory reply about the purpose of carrying cash into the building.

"Their behaviour also appeared suspicious. Therefore, the department immediately called the police and handed over these persons and the cash to the police for further investigation into the matter. Eight complaints in the matter have also been filed with the police," Yadav said in a statement.
He assured that the Department of Trade and Taxes is committed to provide a clean and trader-friendly environment to the people in Delhi and to rid it of any corruption and malpractices.
