Farmer fined for burning stubble

Acting on the directions of National Green Tribunal (NGT), the administration today fined a farmer Mohan Singh of village Garlo Bet for burning sugarcane stubble in the field.

A team led by Tehsildar Gurjinder Singh realised the penalty from the defaulter on the spot.

Singh said that following a complaint received by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Balachaur, Jagjit Singh that someone had set on fire crop residue in Garlo Bet, a team led by him visited the spot and found that the defaulting farmer had set afire the crop residue of sugarcane crop.

A fine of Rs 5,000 was realised on the spot as per the norms set by NGT, he said.
