Former AP minister Bhattam Srirama Murthy no more

Freedom fighter and former Andhra Pradesh minister Bhattam Srirama Murhty today died at a hospital in the district following a prolonged illness, his family said. He was 89.

Murthy is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.

He was with Congress first, and later joined TDP.

He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1962 from Vizianagaram, and from Parvada in Visakhapatnam district in 1972 and 1978.

Murthy was education and cultural affairs minister in 1972, social welfare minister between 1974-78 and cultural affairs minister in 1981.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam in 1984 as a member of Telugu Desam Party.
 

His autobiography, entitled 'Swechcha Bharatam', was published in 2009.
