Haryana government has directed all deputy commissioners to submit fresh reports on special 'Girdawari' by April 16 after factoring in the loss caused to crops due to heavy rains and hailstorms that lashed several parts of the state early this month.

Stating this here today, an official spokesman said the deputy commissioners who had sent their assessment of the loss by March-end had been told to resubmit reports.

Payment of compensation would be made to the affected farmers within 30 days of receipt of their reports on special Girdawari, he said.

Earlier, Haryana government had demanded Rs 1,135.91 crore from Centre as total relief including Rs 537 crore for crop loss because of rains and hailstorm till March 22.

Dismissing the Opposition charges of less compensation being paid to farmers as "false and politically motivated", the spokesman said the state government had not only approved but had also started disbursing compensation to farmers for the period under the previous government which had not even bothered to approve.

Elaborating on this issue, he said that the state government had released compensation of Rs 18.40 crore to Hisar district for the damage caused to crops in Kharif 2013 (July-September 2013), and approved Rs 123 crore for Bhiwani, Hisar and Jind districts for the crops damaged due to the drought in Kharif 2014( June-September 2014).

This compensation, now being disbursed to farmers, has been calculated on the basis of the norms fixed by the previous government, he added.

The spokesman also clarified that the compensation for the loss caused to crops due to heavy rains and hailstorm in Rabi 2015 (February'2015 till today) would be paid according to the norms set by the present government which includes provision of minimum compensation of Rs 500.
