: A five-member armed gang looted seven sovereigns of gold jewellery and cash from a house at Kinathukadavu on the outskirts of the city after threatening the inmates at gunpoint, police said.
One gang member was later nabbed after a chase, they said.
Police said the house owner woke up at 5.30 AM and came out of the house,only to find the masked gang at his doorstep, brandishing a gun, knives and sickles. They forced him inside, woke up his family and demanded the keys to the almirah.

However they were irked when the house owner told them that the jewellery was in a bank locker and locked them inside a room. They then broke open another almirah, looted seven sovereigns of gold ornaments and some cash and fled in a car they said.
Neigbhours rushed to the house on hearing the shouts of the inmates and released them.
Superintendent of Police, Sudhagar and other top police officials visited the spot on getting information. All check posts were alerted to look out for the gang.
A police patrol spotted them on the Pollachi-Palakkad Road in the car, but they abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels. Police gave chase and nabbed one of them.
A search is on for the other gang members, police said.
