Govt official booked for humiliating Dalit woman

A case has been registered against a senior government official for allegedly making caste-based derogatory remarks against a Dalit woman here, police said today.

The case was registered against District Education Officer Markat Keshari Ray following a complaint lodged by Tuni Mallik.

The incident took place on Wednesday when Mallik had gone to meet the official to file a grievance petition, said Santanu Kumar Padhi, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Human Right Protection Cell.

A case under section 3 of the Prevention of Atrocity against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act was registered against the DEO yesterday, he said.
