Haryana cops to launch checking of malls to detect power theft

Haryana police and power utilities will jointly launch a campaign to check power theft in petrol pumps, shopping malls, theatres, hospitals and other high value consumers.

This was informed today by Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nagam Chairman and Managing Director Devender Singh.

Those found involved in theft of electricity will not be spared and stringent action would be initiated against them, he said.

Singh said Haryana power distribution corporation plans to start online registration of filing of complaints or daily diary reports in power theft cases.

He said all legal formalities would be completed at the site and the complaints would be sent to Irrigation and Power Police stations simultaneously. The power distribution corporations will provide 2,000 laptops to supervisory staff for on the spot action in such cases. A copy of checking report and the assessed amount will be given to the defaulting consumer also.
 

Additional DGP Mohinder Lal said prompt registration of cases of power theft would be ensured by the Irrigation and Power police stations.

Meanwhile, Haryana power discom announced special incentive to retirees who will help in recovery of defaulting amount from permanently disconnected consumers.

The beneficiary will get 20 per cent of the total recovered amount as special incentive under the 'Theft Informer Scheme', Singh said.
