HC dismisses PIL seeking CBI probe

Madras High court today dismissed a petition seeking a direction to CBI to probe alleged disproportionate wealth accumulated by former minister N Suresh Rajan. A Division Bench of Justice Chitra Venkataraman and Justice S Vimala recorded the submission of the Deputy Secretary of Home that the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption was already looking into the complaint and it would investigate every aspect and take proper action. The petitioner Girinivasan from Nagercoil alleged before the Madurai bench that the former minister had accumulated Rs 500 crore worth of assets though his income as minister was less than Rs 50,000 a month. Besides, he had declared to the election officer that his assets was worth Rs.24,27,115 during 1996. The Government said it was taking action on the complaint and it was ready to act if any other complaints also were brought to its notice. The court said the petitioner could approach the Government if he had any other grievance and it was open to the government to act on them based on merits.
