HC orders contempt of court notice to Collector

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today ordered issue of statutory notice to Tirunelveli District Collector M Karunakaran in a contempt petition asking to appear before the court within four weeks to explain as to why he did not obey the court order.

Justice K Ravichandrababu ordered issue of notice to the Collector, admitting a contempt petition filed by S T Maheswari, who had sought employment for her second son T Subbiah Pandian on compassion grounds.

The petitioner submitted that the court had directed the Collector to provide employment for Subbiah pandian within six weeks on June 25, 2014.
 

The Collector, she submitted, had wilfully and deliberately disobeyed the Court order and hence should be punished for contempt of court.
