The Madras High Court today quashed the detention orders passed against 14 Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) cadres under the National Security Act.

The detention orders were passed by Tamil Nadu government after the Fullmoon festival, conducted by PMK's Youth Wing at Mahabalipuram in April and the consequent violence in Marakkanam by the party cadres allegedly targeting Dalits.

With this, detention orders against 133 have been quashed. However, party leader Jeyakondan and MLA J Guru are still in detention.

A division bench, comprising Justices S Rajeswaran and A Arumugaswamy, quashed the preventive detention orders of the 14 PMK leaders.
