City-based engineering company Jessop & Co may reopen by August 14, West Bengal Labour minister Malay Ghatak said today.

"The tripartite meeting on Jessop was fruitful and it will reopen on either August 9 or 14," Ghatak said.

He said a monitoring committee would be formed which would examine the feasibility of productivity demanded by the company management.

The committee would submit its report in a month's time.

Jessop declined to speak about the outcome of the meeting.

Pawan Kumar Ruia group-controlled firm Jessop & Co declared suspension of work at its Dum Dum unit on May 15. It employed 685 workers.

At the time of suspension of work, the management had alleged that continuous malicious intervention of outsiders in the functioning of the plant had resulted in overall disruption of the its plan to revamp operations.

The plant was hardly operational for the last one year, the company had said.

Meanwhile, a meeting to reopen Shalimar Paints in Howrah remained inconclusive and the government said it had asked the company managing director to attend the next meeting on August 13.
