K R Meera gets Vayalar award

Noted Malayalam novelist K R Meera has been selected for the Vayalar literary prize for her widely-acclaimed novel "Arachar" (Executioner).

The award, considered a top honour for writings in Malayalam, instituted after poet and lyricist Vayalar Rama Varma, was announced here today by Vayalar Trust chairman Prof M K Sanoo.

Meera's award-winning novel, which narrates the story of a family of executioners in the backdrop of Kolkata, has received positive critical applause and readers' appreciation.

The award carries Rs 25,000, citation and a memento.
