Former BSP MLA B L Kushwah, who is serving life imprisonment in a murder case, was today shifted to Sriganganagar jail from Dholpur district jail on the directions by the Election Commission of India.

Pradesh Congress chief Sachin Pilot had filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Kushwah for allegedly trying to influence the bypoll to be held in Dholpur assembly constituency on April 9.

Kushwah's wife Shobha Rani is contesting the seat on a BJP ticket.

The Dholpur constituency seat felt vacant after Kushwah was sentenced to life imprisonment in December last year.

The Election Commission, acting on the complaint, gave directions to the state Home Department which asked the district administration to shift Kushwah to Sriganganagar jail.
