Jammu and Kashmir government today said over 14 acres of land has been acquired for construction of traveller mart in Kathua district of the state.
Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora on behalf of Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir today informed the House that 14 Acres (114 kanals) of land has been acquired for construction of traveller mart in Lakhanpur.
Replying to a question by BJP MLA Jagdish Raj Spolia, the Minister said that out of this, 10 Acres (85 kanals) has been taken over from the district authorities and construction work of the Mart started.

He said that in addition acquisition of 98 kanals of land of Punjab Irrigation Department land has also been taken up with the Punjab Government.
Jora said in order to expedite eviction of encroachers, Chief Executive Officer Lakhanpur Sarthal Development Authority has been nominated as the nodal officer to coordinate with the District administration for taking over possession of the land from encroachers.
He said Rs 81 lakh have been released for construction of the Mart and necessary work has been started, which would be completed in stipulated time frame.
He added that in order to upgrade tourists infrastructure in the area, state government has submitted a project report of Rs 4 crore to the Centre for funding.
