Alleging that Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has been sitting on files related to farm loan waiver, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said today that he had written to the Centre requesting it to look into the matter.

Narayanasamy, who has been at loggerheads with Bedi over various issues, met Tamil Nadu farmers protesting at Jantar Mantar here.

"We are making all efforts to help farmers, including announcing a loan waiver, but the LG has not given the nod yet. We have written to the Centre asking it to look into the issue," he said.

The Puducherry government had earlier announced that it would write off crop loans by farmers totalling about Rs 20 crore.

The farmers have been protesting to press their various demands including loan waiver, crop insurance and setting up of Cauvery Management Board by the Centre. The sit-in began on July 16.
