Angry residents today blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for several hours as they accusing police of torturing a youth who was allegedly involved in an eve teasing case.
The residents of Hamirpur area in the district came on the highway and blocked it for several hours demanding action against the erring police official involved in the alleged torture of the youth, a police officer said.
Few days ago, Ganesh Sharma was arrested by police after a girl in the area lodged an eve teasing compliant against him.
He was severely tortured by the police and had to be shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu (GMC) from where now doctors have referred him to PGI Chandigarh, the police official said.
The protest was called off only after senior officials of the district administration assured thorough enquiry into the incident and action against the culprits.
