Actor Louis CK is taking an "extended hiatus" from his Emmy-winning comedy series "Louie" in order to produce other shows.

FX made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour, reported the Digital Spy.

"He is anxious to take a break and wants to focus on other things," FX president John Landgraf told reporters. "It's really going to be his choice (on when he'll return)."

CK, 47, is currently collaborating with Zach Galifianakis on an FX comedy series and with "Louie" co-star Pamela Adlon on her own show "Better Things", which were commissioned as part of his overall deal with the network.

"Louie" was on hiatus throughout 2013 while Louis CK focused on stand-up comedy.

The series returned for its fifth season in April, earning Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards.
