Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray today said the Mahalaxmi race course should be thrown open for the citizens of the megapolis.
"Now the time has come when Mahalaxmi race course be opened for common people of the city," said Thackeray after performing 'bhoomipoojan' of the Colaba sewage water treatment plant of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.
"I am not against horse races, but I am of the firm view that it (the race course) should be opened for people of Mumbai who are striving for some open space," said the Sena chief.
In 2013, Uddhav had submitted a plan to the then Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan for setting up a state-of-the-art garden at the Mahalaxmi race course.
