After Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked his ministers to be familiar with their departments, Jitendra Singh today took a round of Ministry of Personnel in North Block here.

Singh who is Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office and Personnel Ministry, visited the Ministry and interacted with the staff, official sources said.

The purpose of visit for the newly inducted minister was to get familiar with the various wings under him and officers, they said.

Singh, a first time Lok Sabha member from Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur constituency took over the charge as MoS Personnel on Tuesday. He had soon hit the headlines for his comments seeking debate on Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and certain Congress leaders objected to Singh's comments. 57-year-old Singh had later clarified that his comments were misrepresented in the media.

Modi took a round of Prime Minister's Office in South Block yesterday where he met the staff and enquired about the facilities available to them.

The Ministry of Personnel deals with various matters related to central government employees, act as cadre controlling authority for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and provides administrative support to CBI and CVC among others.

The Ministry is also entrusted with matters related to anti-corruption and good governance matters.
