The Muzaffarnagar district authorities today sent a preliminary report to the state government on withdrawal of case against Muslim leaders, but said that a complete report could only be sent after probe into the matter is completed.

District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that a report on withdrawal of case against Muslim leaders for allegedly inciting violence by making inflammatory speeches during the last year's riots had been sent to the Law Department.

The District Magistrate said the SIT has not completed its investigation into the case (involving the Muslim leaders), and the charge-sheet has not yet been filed. "A full report cannot be submitted till the investigations are completed into the matter," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government is reportedly considering withdrawing case against Muslim leaders, including BSP MP Kadir Rana, booked for allegedly inciting violence through inflammatory speeches on August 30 last year in a Muslim Panchayat at Khala Par here during the Muzaffarnagar riots.
