Naveen cancels New Year celebrations

"The inhuman incident at Delhi has pained the entire country. Assault on women has severely hurt sentiments of the people. Therefore, Patnaik will not celebrate the New Year's Day," a spokesman of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.

Patnaik will, however, visit Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri as usual on the Day and seek blessings of the trinity (Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath), he said.

The Chief Minister has also urged all not to visit Naveen Niwas, Patnaik's residence tomorrow.
