The NCP on Thursday announced suspension of its ongoing 'Shivswarajya Yatra' in view of the flood situation in parts of Maharashtra, particularly the Western region of the state.

NCP chief spokesperson Nawab Malik said the revised programme of the yatra will be announced once the flood situation is brought under control.

Malik, also NCP's Mumbai unit chief, said the party will now deploy its workers for relief work in the flood- ravaged areas of Sangli and Kolhapur districts.

The NCP had launched the yatra, a pre-poll mass outreach campaign, on August 6 from Shivneri Fort in Pune district.

On Thursday, the yatra reached Nashik in North Maharashtra.

"The party has decided to suspend the yatra in view of the flood situation in parts of the state. Its revised programme will be announced once the flood situation is under control," Malik said in a statement.

According to the original schedule of the yatra, it is suppose to culminate on August 28 at Raigad Fort in adjoining Raigad district.
