Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today appealed to cadres of ruling Congress to refrain from erecting cut-outs or banners in connection with his birthday on May 30 anywhere in the Union Territory.

Talking to reporters here, Narayanasamy said he had already urged partymen to avoid display of the publicity material anywhere in the Union Territory as cut-outs and banners marred the beauty of Puducherry and also proved to be an obstruction to statues of great leaders.

He said those erecting banners or cut-outs "are my enemies as I never approve of such things and never celebrate my birthday."

The Chief Minister said he had asked the PWD Minister and PCC president A Namassivayam to ensure that cut-outs or banners already erected by partymen were removed with the help of staff of municipalities and the police force.

He further said if "affluent persons in the party" wanted to spend money on cut-outs, they could as well donate the amount to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund which would be helpful in assisting people suffering from various ailments.

"Let us not spend money on cut-outs," he said hoping that the PWD Minister would respond to his plea for removal of the cut-outs.

"We introduced a ban in the past on the display of publicity materials but that came a cropper as no practical implementation was possible. But this time I am firm that it should be implemented in letter and spirit," he said.
