A private bus today went out of control and ploughed through a portion of a temple premises near here, damaging idols and sending panic-stricken devotees scampering away to safety.
None were injured in the incident, which occurred when the bus driver lost control while taking a turn near an Ayyanar temple near Thirukovilur, about 37 km from here.
The Thirukovilur bound bus from Kallakurichi ploughed through a portion of the temple premises bringing down poles of a shelter and damaging idols before coming to a halt.
"There was no injury to anyone, the driver is being questioned. He seems to have some health issues which we are investigating. Apparently, he lost control and the bus just went ahead into the temple premises smashing some idols and shelter poles, a police official told PTI.
Though no one was injured, it led to panic in the temple and the neighborhood.
Temple priest K Veeran has lodged a complaint.
