Three days after a jewellery shop in suburban Jogeshwari was robbed of gold and cash, collectively valued at Rs 58.73 lakh, police today claimed to have cracked the case here.

The police has arrested a teenager from Rajasthan, who allegedly orchestrated the pre-planned act, with the help of his cousin who was employed in the store, the police said.

Identified as Ravi Vaishnav (19), the accused was arrested today and the entire stolen jewellery as well cash was recovered, Oshiwara police station's senior inspector Nasir Pathan said.

"The accused will be produced before court tomorrow," he said.

According to the police, a broad daylight robbery was reported on Friday, claiming that two unidentified men had walked into Iqra jewellery store at about 1.00 pm, posing as customers, and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 56.63 lakh and cash of Rs 2.10 lakh, after injuring worker Mukesh Vaishnav (25) with a sharp object.

Khalid Ahmed Hakim (52), the owner of Iqra jewellery store at Vaishali Nagar, had left for prayers, when the "robbery" took place, according to Mukesh, who was admitted in a hospital, the police said.

Mukesh, who is still undergoing treatment in Cooper Hospital, had also claimed in his statement that assailants had not only decamped with valuables and cash, but had also taken away the hard disk of the closed circuit television camera at the location, Pathan said.

While probing the case, investigators grew suspicious of Mukesh, since the robbers surprisingly had not touched the duplicate jewellery in the shop. Besides, no significant damage had been caused to the equipment to take away the CCTV's hard disk, the officer said.
