The Rajiv Gandhi National Law University (RGNLU) today bagged the 15th Raj Anand Intellectual Property moot court competition held here.
Souradeep Mukhopadhyay of RGNLU (Patiala) won the best speaker award in the final rounds.
Symbiosis Law School, Noida, emerged as the runners-up in the competition which was organised by Anand and Anand law associates in collaboration with Vidya Intellectual Property Foundation.
Priya Agarwal of Symbiosis Law School bagged the best speaker award in the preliminary round and Government Law College, Mumbai, got the award for the Best Pleadings in the competition.
The awards and the ever-rolling trophy were given away by Michael Fysh QC SC, former judge, United Kingdom who judged the final round along with Justice Mukta Gupta of Delhi High Court.
Justice Gupta was all praise for the young participants and complimented the student lawyers for their hard work.
"Great to see young children working hard. They were brilliant, innovative, hard working and arguing brilliantly," she said after the final rounds.
"You must learn your case well. More importantly, you must know the other side of your case as well," she added as a word of caution for the budding lawyers.
Fysh advised the students to initiate the arguments in a gentle pace rather than pouncing at the bench from the beginning.
'Biologics and Patents' was the theme for the competition in which 16 top colleges across India participated.
A cash prize of Rs 25,000, ever-rolling trophy and internship with Anand and Anand law firm are in bag for the winners.
Earlier in the morning, Justice Manmohan Singh of Delhi High Court addressed the audience and inaugurated the competition and said "I enrolled in the bar in the year 1980, a time when this culture of mooting wasn't prevalent and all the present judges and Senior Counsels used to gather together and inspect documents, and how the present trend have changed.
