Press Trust of India New Delhi
Union minister Kiren Rijiju today visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre to enquire about the condition of CRPF Commanding Officer Chetan Kumar Cheeta who sustained injuries during an encounter with militants in Kashmir.

The Minister of State for Home, after meeting the doctors treating Cheeta, said the officer was being treated by the specialists and that the government would provide all necessary help in this regard.

CRPF officials said Cheeta's condition remained "critical" after he was admitted to the premier hospital early this week after being flown from Kashmir in an air ambulance.

Hailing from Rajasthan, Cheeta bore the initial brunt of the attack on Tuesday in Hajjan where a joint team of army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police had laid siege to the area following intelligence inputs that two foreign terrorists were hiding there.

Cheeta, the Commanding Officer of CRPF's 45th battalion deployed in Kashmir valley, had received gunshot wounds in his eye, hands, waist and pelvic region and had suffered a fracture in the hand, they added.

The minister also met Cheeta's wife. CRPF DG K Durga Prasad was also present at the hospital.
