The city police has informed the Delhi High Court that it has sanctioned Rs 3.96 crore for the repair of 106 quarters of its officers and more than 50 of these flats have already been handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) for carrying out the work.
The submission was made before Justice Manmohan who had directed constitution of a committee for ensuring that the flats are repaired/renovated and to examine if any inhabitant is to be reimbursed for the repair and renovation carried out by him "due to neglect and apathy on the part of the state".
The court had passed the order while hearing a petition that flats given to Delhi Police officers at Dwarka, Sector 13, Phase-I and Phase-II, New Delhi in Type B (II) are dilapidated.

The petition, filed by Constable Dashrath and some others through advocate Balendu Shekhar, had submitted that there is imminent danger of life to the occupants of the building.
In its affidavit submitted before the court pursuant to its orders, Delhi Police said that several meetings of the committee have been held after it was set up.
They also said that the PWD had given an estimate of Rs 3.99 crore for the repair/renovation of the 106 police quarters and towards this an amount of Rs 3.96 crore has been approved.
It has also said that as per the civic body, the repair and renovation work will take around two to three months.
On the issue of reimbursement of cost of repair and renovation carried out by the inhabitants, Delhi Police said that the same cannot be refunded as there is no provision for it in the guidelines for execution of such work.
It also asked the Joint Commissioner of Police, Planning and Implementation, to look into the matter.
