Heavy traffic jam was witnessed on Jammu-Srinagar national highway today soon after it was reopened for one way traffic as a section of the road caved in at Chenani area of Udhampur district, forcing authorities to stop the movement of heavy vehicles.

A patch of the highway caved in at Chenani area soon after it was reopened for one way traffic, three days after heavy snowfall forced its closure, police officials said.

Following the caving of the road, the movement of heavy vehicles on the highway was stopped immediately and all the trucks were put on halt near Chenani, they said adding that over 100 trucks had been stranded due to it.

However, one way traffic for the light vehicles continued but it created heavy traffic jams due to slow movement and caving in of the road stretch, they said.

The Leighton company, which undertakes construction of Chanani-Nashri tunnel, has started reconstruction of the damaged road stretch.
