Thane District Education Officer (Primary) of the Thane Zilla Parishad has been suspended with immediate effect by the state government on charges of alleged dereliction of duties as well as repeated complaints about him from various quarters, it was learnt here today.
The order which was issued by the Deputy Secretary of the State Education Department on December 10, stated that the officer P L Kawane was being suspended by the government under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Maharashtra Employment Rules (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979.
It is learnt that there were numerous complaints against the officer from teachers, citizens, school managements and even MLAs, after which the government sought a report from the Zilla Parishad chief, based on which the government took a decision to suspend him.

A number of misdeeds by the officer in dealing with educational programmes is also said to be a reason why action was taken against him, official sources said.
The order has also directed that during his suspension period, the officer should not leave the headquarters and also not take up any private jobs or do any business, and he would be eligible for wages as per regulations during his suspension period.
