A truck fell into a 50-feet deep lake located 250-feet below the surface level in an open quarry site here today and a man who was behind the wheel is feared dead, police said.
The truck, which was on the surface of a quarry site rolled down 250-feet and sank into the lake with the cleaner in it. He is feared dead.
The vehicle fell when it was being reversed by the cleaner Kalaivanan.
"Fire and Rescue services personnel are looking for the cleaner. He is feared dead. The truck fell like a pack of cards and was smashed," Pallavaram Police Sub Inspector G Sekar told PTI, adding, a probe was on.
The driver was away when the mishap occured, he said though some local people had a counter-claim.
The open quarry sites, abutting a hillock is on the Thirusulam-Moovarasampet Road and the locale has the appearance of a ravine due to decades of quarrying to extract stone.
