Villagers beat up policemen

A police team was allegedly attacked by villagers while it was taking away three accused of a loot and murder case after arresting them from Harra village here.

In the attack, six policemen were injured.

The incident occurred yesterday when policemen after arresting three persons, accused of murdering and looting a man in Mandi area of Panipat on December 3, were returning in two vans.

More than a dozen villagers have been nabbed in this regard, police superintendent M M Baig said.

However, villagers claimed that it was a case of mistaken identity and they mistook police officers as looters as they raided the village in plain clothes.
