Wheat crop in over 8 acre damaged in "accidental fire"

Wheat crop spread over eight acre of land was completely damaged due to "accidental fire" in the Jammu district, an official said today.

Standing wheat crop on 8.75 acres of land in the Pargawal-Nikowal which is the last village on Indo-Pak Boarder in Chamb sector was damaged due accidental fire yesterday, an official spokesman said.

He said that besides the crop various water pumping sets were totally damaged in the fire causing huge losses to the farmers.

The vice chairman of the state Advisory Board for Development of Kissans, Daljit Singh Chib who visited the fire affected area directed the revenue officials to assess the losses and send their report to the concerned authorities at the earliest for providing relief to the farmers.
 

Chib asked them to ascertain the reason of fire so that preventive measures are taken to avoid such incidents.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner Jammu for providing permanent firefighting gadgets in the area so that in future any untoward incident is prevented.
