Thirty-three years after Chrysler invented the minivan, it's reinventing it.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is unveiling a new minivan the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica today at the start of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The new minivan replaces the Chrysler Town and Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan.
The Pacifica has a sleeker, swept-back look than the current boxy models. It also sits lower to the ground.
There will be a plug-in hybrid version the first in the industry that can go up to 30 miles on electric power alone before the gas engine kicks in.
Other firsts include hands-free sliding doors that open when the driver sticks a foot under them.
The Pacifica goes on sale this spring. Pricing hasn't been announced.
