A worker was crushed to death by a goods train during railway bogie shunting at the Ambuja Cement Plant of Chhattisgarh's Balodabazaar-Bhatapara district today, police said.

The incident occurred when the victim Ravishankar Verma (46), who is a factory pointsman was engaged in shunting the goods train inside the Ambuja Cement plant premises located in Rawan region under Balodabazaar police station limits, Balodabazaar-Bhatapara Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shandilya told PTI.

As per preliminary probe, the communication between Ravishankar and the train driver got cut-off due to some technical snag in a walkie-talkie used by them, which resulted in the run-over incident, Shandilya said.

The train was heading towards the loading and unloading section of the cement plant.

Soon after the incident, labourers and other officials at the spot informed the plant management who rushed the victim to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead, the SP said.

A case has been registered in this connection, the SP said, adding that the body of deceased was sent for post-mortem and a probe is on.
