A 25-year-old worker at a lawyers' canteen of the Delhi High Court today died allegedly due to electrocution while using a grinding machine.

The victim has been identified as Devender from Uttar Pradesh.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), which has control over the canteen, has decided to provide financial assistance to the family of the deceased.

A senior DHCBA member said since the canteen is operated by a contractor, he too will be asked to pay some ex-gratia to the boy's family.

DHCBA President Rajiv Khosla said an inspection of the canteen will be done to find out whether there was any fault on the part of the employer.

Khosla said, "He (Devender) had been working with the grinder machine everyday and he never reported any problem. It has come as a surprise to us and we will help in the investigations."

"No one else was injured in the accident," police said, adding that a short-circuit in the machine appears to have led to the electrocution.
