Young woman, son crushed to death, mob erupts in violence

A young woman and her three-year old son were today killed after being knocked down by a stonechip-laden truck near Rajarhat police sation in North 24 Parganas district today.

The incident triggered mob violence as protestors pelted stones at the truck and also vandalised premises of a nearby under-construction complex and a big police force had to be rushed to disperse the mob.

Regarding the hit-and-run death case, police said the 28-year old woman Sabera Begum and her 3-year old son Sohan Ali were moving in a cycle-rickshaw when the truck suddenly appeared and knocked down the small vehicle.

As Sabera and Sohan were crushed to death and the bodies were lying on ground, a mob rushed from their locality nearby and turned it's ire on the truck and the nearby housing triggering panic among the people living in the emerging real estate hub.
 

Police later arrested the driver of the truck.
