Ap Plans Four Newapparel Export Parks

Vasanta Kumar BSCAL

Even as the Apparel Export Park at Hyderabad is languishing for want of tenants, the Andhra Pradesh government has mooted proposals for similar parks at four more cities - Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nagri and Madanapalle.

The Hyderabad park was opened with much fanfare more than a year ago, but so far it could attract only two units Chermas and Kartik Apparels have opened shop in the park against a provision for 120 units.

"Unless some big names like Raymonds or S Kumars park their units, it is difficult to attract the medium and small ones into the park," says Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) executive director Arvind Reddy.

"Big units will come only if a cluster of 15 to 20 medium adn small ones put up their units in the park," contradicts Andhra Pradesh Apparel Exporters Association president Sushil Kumar Kanodia.
