Cea Okay Still Mandatory For 1000cr-Plus Projects

The minister explained that the Prime Ministers statement at the recently-held chief ministers conference that no power project should come to the Centre for clearance was a mere directive to reduce delays in clearing these projects.
He said any further raising of the Rs 1,000 crore ceiling would depend on the experience gained by the government during the process of power liberalisation. The minister said the government had already reduced the number of clearances required by private developers.
From a staggering number of 17 clearances needed earlier, the number has now been cut down to only five to six.
Power secretary P Abraham said the Centre was working out details to syncronise the functions of national and state grids.
While granting permission to private developers for their projects, the government had to keep the whole countrys interest in mind, he said.
