Eight Steel Projects On The Anvil

He said 20 projects, involving an investment of Rs 20,090 crore with an estimated capacity of 11.26 million tonnes per annum, had already been cleared by the financial institutions and are at various stages of implementation.

Addressing the delegates at the 12th Steel Consumers Council meeting here, the minister said private sector has been registering a steady increase in total steel production.

The meeting was attended by the Steel Authority of India chairman M R R Nair, chairman-cum-managing director of Vishakapatnam steel plant Jatinder Mehra and Tata Steel managing director J J Irani.

The meeting of the steel consumers council pointed out various lapses on part of the main producers and the government which affect both direct consumers as well as producers in the secondary sector.

 

All major associations of the various segments of the industry like the Steel Furnace Association and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (AC-MA) were also present at the meeting.
