Equities Dip

Equities went down slightly on the Madras stock market yesterday. However, few counters went up and finished with modest gains. A good number of scrips ruled steady. The Madras Stock Exchange share price index edged up by 7.33 points to close at 3865.83 as against the previous day's close of 3858.50.

ACC drifted by Rs 38.65 to Rs 1135. ITC declined by Rs 3.90 to Rs 379.60, Reliance by Rs 3.75 to Rs 307.30, State Bank by Rs 4.20 to Rs 315 and Mahanagar Tele by Rs 6 to Rs 275.25. Balaji Industries, Balaji Bio, Bank of India, Chettinad, Coffeeland, Femnor, Global Trust, Harrison Malayalam, Kar Mobile, L&T, Penta Communication, Square d Soft, Sund Clayton, Sundram Finance, Tisco, Satyam Computer and Veejay Lakshmi Engineering were taken at lower levels. Hind Lever further moved up by Rs 5 to Rs 1230 and Manjsuhree by Rs 11.60 to Rs 247. HDFC rose by Rs 44.95 to Rs 3260 and ICICI by Rs 5.50 to Rs 75.60. Spic, Kothari Indus, BSES and Orchid were made marginal gains.
